Adobe flash player problem

I've been trying to install Adobe flash player in Win 98SE. Some web pages
with videos won't play the video or sometimes won't show a picture. Just
comes up blank with a small box with colored pieces in it. One site says I
need Adobe flash player. I searched Google and ended up on Adobe where it
had Flash player 9.124.0 on the screen and said to click on "agree and
install now". The next page came up and was blank at the top with the usual
small square with color pieces inside it, whatever you call it. Below on the
same page it said "when it finishes downloading it will be installed", but
goes back to the pointed cursor and doesn't install. Flash player has worked
fine till a couple of weeks ago when I deleted something by mistake. Does
anyone know how to fix this?

I don't have 98SE, so I can't see the exact page you get when you go to Adobe,
but I had the same problem with Momsy's XP system... it downloaded, but didn't
automatically install. If there's an option on the page you see to download and
install later, or if a box pops up asking if you want to "Run from current location",
or "Save to disk", pick the save option. Let it download, then double-click on the
saved file and it should install.

There doesn't seem to be an option on the download page to install later as
is the case with most downloads.. I was looking for that. This is the page:

http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash

I think its the latest version, and says it supports Win 98. But when I
click "Agree and Install now" (since there is no other choice), it goes to
another page, but the top part of the page only has that small box and is
blank. On some web pages the page starts off with the small box, but then it
shows a picture, but not on all web sites. Also on that page it metnions a
Security window may come up and it means flash player is installed, but that
window doesn't come up. I downloaded Sun Java as I read it can be java
script problem, but that didn't work. I have another drive with XP on it and
can use it, but I use Win 98 more often as I like it better and runs all the
programs I want. So I guess I am stuck about flash player for now.
Thank you for your reply.

Usually when this happens to me it's because I don't have java scripting
allowed for that particular page. I use Mozilla Firefox and there will be an
indicator at the bottom of the window with the circle with a slash thru
it that
lets me know.

I use Outlook express 6.0 and I've never had this problem before till lately
when I must have done something to flash player or javascript by mistake.
Usually Javascript is enabled for all web pages isn't it? How can I check if
Javascript is enabled? I use Sun Java version 5.0 or maybe its version 6.0.
When you say there will be an indicator at the bottom of the window with the
circle with a slash thru, what window do you mean? the Flash player version
9 screen? I can't remember seeing a window with a circle with a slach thru.

I'm sorry, but at this point, I'm no help. I haven't used OE in years.
With Firefox, there is an indicator at the bottom of the screen that shows
the status of java scripting. Whether it's allowed or not. I have mine
to default
to 'not allowed'.

Thats OK. I can manage without flash player in Win 98, and can use Win XP
if I need to. But you know how it is, if you are like me, you like to get
things working proplerly.:) Thanks for trying.

Go here and download the uninstaller for Windows and run it.

Then try to reinstall the player again.

I tried that a few times, but it didn't help. I can't solve it so for now,
so will have to leave it. Maybe I will figure it out sometime. Thanks
anyway.

I meant above its the top left part of the page that has the small box and
is blank. I read messages on the Adobe forum but didn't see anything helpful
for my situation.
