Dear all,

The following message now appears during boot up:

Floppy disks(s) fail (40)
CMOS checksum error - Defaults loaded.

I press F1 to continue and sometimes, but not always the clock and date
resets back to the 1990's, so that needs resetting.

Could it be the battery on the motherboard. Other than that I'm lost.

Many thanks,
Will.

Yes, it's probably the battery.

Yes. Definitely the BIOS battery.
Costs a couple of bucks to replace.

Go into the BIOS setup and make sure the floppy drive is properly
configured, probably a 3.5 inch 1.44 megabyte drive. Be sure to
save the setting when exiting. If this doesn't help, try replacing the
battery.
